Using audiobooks in our listening center will help my students build an understanding of narrative structure. It will foster imagination and encourage visualization. These skills are linked to improving reading comprehension. With audiobooks, my students will develop listening skills and quiet concentration. Having audiobooks open up literary texts for my visually impaired students and are great for dyslexics. My students with attention deficit disorders may find that listening is more distraction-free than actual reading. Lastly, audiobooks will teach my students how to hold people’s attention when telling a story which in the long run is an important skill for life.
