Audio Visual Classroom Basics For First Grade Literacy Learners!

Help me give my students a class set of new headphones, an organizer to keep them neat, a reading and writing literacy easel, chart paper, pointers, book bags, a sight word learning chart plus more!

My Students

Students in the "highest poverty" category, often do not have opportunities to follow their dreams. I am all about making the impossible possible and their dreams for the future an obtainable reality. My students come from countries around the world. They have traveled from Africa, Asia, South America, and across North America, as children of refugees and families that move frequently, due to low-income earning ability. The unique and difficult experiences of my students are what make my students some of the most powerful and determined young minds you could ever hope to meet.

My students have experienced adversity.

In our classroom, we rise above it. My students are resilient and brilliant. They have incredible leadership abilities. They help each other and understand the power of teamwork. We build a classroom community and care for each other. When one student succeeds, they all celebrate the success achieved by their classmate. These bonds are forged with time, shared tribulation, and the universal truth that every single student in our class has enormous potential.

My Project

Did you see that? Did you hear it? These are questions my students could ask every day. Our classroom headphones are in a sad and tangled state. A few are missing the ear covers, and have certainly seen better days. We would love a new class set of student friendly headphones that will aid in literacy learning and technology use every day.

Our first grade readers and writers learn from hearing and seeing as they interact with literacy - this project brings these sensory aspects to life with age appropriate basic classroom equipment.

Many of my students need glasses. Our school nurse will soon be doing vision and hearing checkups. As an important support for visual learners we need an educational chart paper easel and pointers to help students engage with words through literacy. The chart paper, hooks, word wall, and other materials will support creating the classroom our students need to thrive as learners.

This year we are working in a collaborative community of learners and one reward students can earn for teamwork are comfy pillows. This project includes the pillow inserts. I will make covers for them out of cute alphabet cloth that I'll purchase myself.

The hanging organizer will store our headphones and help keep them neat. The canvas tote bangs for each student will hold their important daily learning tools.

With the materials included in this project our budding first grade readers and writers will be able to access all the audio and visual supports available to them!
