My students are wonderful, imaginative students who enjoy learning, especially when technology is involved however, many of them face difficulties in their day to day living that makes learning a challenge. My classroom recently received a set of laptops to use in our day to day learning. These laptops are an amazing resource for our students because many of them do not have any kind of technology (smart phones, tablets, iPads, or desk top computers in their homes.) They love using them and are very motivated to learn when they are at their fingertips. However, without having earbuds, these students who need sound to fully understand and engage in the variety of learning programs we use, are becoming very frustrated.
They also find themselves more motivated and comfortable learning when they get a choice in their seating in the classroom.

My Project
Students who have more ownership in their learning will be more motivated and engaged in their learning. We are trying to foster students’ ownership of their learning and our classroom by providing them with flexible seating choices and personalized learning. My students love to choose where they sit. We have some seating options in our classroom but would like to give my students even more by supplementing what we have. Right now, the majority of my students still sit at traditional tables and chairs. If there were more seats available on the floor, I feel like more students would be comfortable and excited to be in our classroom.
Many of the personalized learning choices we give students involve technology.
We have laptops but no earbuds. Many students in my classroom can’t afford to buy and bring earbuds from home so they don’t benefit from the audio in the learning programs we routinely use.
