This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to do many things when they get home from school. They like to play video games, watch TV, and use the computer. I want one of their favorite things to be reading. Help me get some interesting books to get them excited about reading.

Next year I will be teaching 24 wonderful first graders.

I teach in a high poverty area in the California Bay Area. My students almost all fall below the poverty line and are English language learners. They have many obstacles to overcome. I want to get them excited about reading so that their futures can be bright.

My Project

I am requesting a set of Junie B. Jones chapter books. My current students have loved these books a little too much. Daily they are bringing pages to me that have fallen out of the books. These books need to be replaced badly. We have also noticed at our school that students struggle in the upper grades when it comes to nonfiction. In order to help solve this problem, I am also requesting 6 sets of leveled nonfiction books. I know that my students will love to read books about real topics in the world around them.

By donating these books to my class you will be exposing my students to new fiction and nonfiction books.

Students love the feeling of a new book in their hands. They are always so excited to open it and experience the words it holds. Please help my students to become better readers and to grow a love of reading.
