At the Center of What We Need: Centers and Seating
My students need flexible seating options for centers and independent reading time. We also would love to add a listening station to our center rotation. We need wobble chairs, a listening center and more.
Our students come to school with a positive attitude and are excited to learn. They are creative artists, thinkers, scientists, and they are getting ready to become readers and writers. They come from diverse backgrounds and speak various home languages.
My students attend an elementary school in an undeserved community.
We have many English Language Learners from various language backgrounds who require specialized English language instruction each day in addition to their typical classwork. Some students do not have consistent or concrete learning opportunities outside of school, and their kindergarten year is often their first experience with literacy and learning.
My Project
The first month of kindergarten has flown by and it is time to move our focus from learning routines to learning new material! My class is starting center rotations for English Language Arts and Math, and we would love flexible seating to be including in that change.
By bringing flexible seating options into the classroom students will feel a sense of choice in their learning environments.
Even a small change in seating and environment can motivate students and instill a sense of excitement in their academic work.
Within the context of our learning centers, we would also love to add a listening station. Listening to stories can help my students work on their comprehension and listening skills.
