My Students
My students come from various backgrounds. The school district is considered to be "high risk" meaning that 100% of their breakfast and lunches are free. There are many rental homes and apartments within the district so I see many new students throughout the year. Many of my students are at elementary reading levels. About half have experienced traumas. This is the reality we are living in. I know that my school is not special because of this. This is the norm in predominantly minority school districts.
My students are amazing.
I work with a group of students that energize me everyday. They are curious and funny. My students are fun, they are energetic, and most of the time they self advocate for their learning. I love them for this. We learn from each other everyday. Most of the time when people hear that I teach middle school they say something like, "well bless your soul" and they are not wrong. My kids are crazy. But, I love them for it. I just hope that I can provide them with the tools that they need to be successful.
My Project
Having continuous access to microphone, camera, and a set of headphones will do so much for our classroom environment. Most our students thrive off technology. If I can not be properly stocked with the equipment that my students need - we are all missing out.
I want to be able to create a classroom environment that is technology savvy in order to meet the needs of ALL learners.
I want to transform the way I present information to the class by recording lessons and then later allowing the students to go back and listen for clarification. I have many students with IEPs. These students need the tests and other assignments read to them. This would ensure they always get the adaptations that they need.
Also, out of my 100 students I miss about 20% of them daily. Some of them are in ISS, some are in OSS, some are sick, some are taking care of siblings, some don't have rides. I struggle with the ability to reach these kids often. This technology pack would allow me to teach everyone.
Lastly, there are so many tasks that sound is necessary for. There are oftentimes in which students watch videos at their own pace in order to catch pertinent information. They engage in webquests, brain based games, vocabulary pronunciation, and even utilize tutorials. Headphones would truly benefit us all.
