I teach middle school students who are learning English as a second or even third language. Most of my students come from the Philippines and island nations of Micronesia (Marshall Islands, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk, Guam, and Saipan). I also have students from Japan, Tonga, China, Vietnam, Mexico, and native Hawaiian speakers.
Our classroom is rich with cultural and linguistic diversity.
My Project
When I taught online this spring and again for summer school, my students still needed some traditional school supplies. Sometimes they wanted to take notes before typing responses. They each created a book project and then submitted it by presenting in our online class and taking a picture of it for me to grade. As we move forward with students coming to school for part of the week and distance learning for the other part, I still want to include hands-on lessons for my students.
They will need materials at home.
With your support, I can create little bundles of supplies that my students can take home and keep at home for use on their distance learning days. Many of my students have younger siblings that I know these supplies will help support, as well. I already have binders, pencil pouches, and composition books that I have purchased from after-school sales. Please help me help them start the year off right! Our new blended learning model will be hard at first - this gift will help things not be quite as hard for my students.
