Astronomy Tools for my Third Graders!

My students need help investigating and understanding how Earth, the moon, and the sun are related, and how these relationships cause tides, moon phases, seasons and day/night. These two videos and the Trippensee Lighted Elementary Planetarium will help my disadvantaged third graders in a way our science basal cannot.

I teach low sociol-economic third graders who are curious and want to inquire into the world around them!

My third graders don't have many opportunities to visit planetariums or museums. They are lucky enough to attend Highland Park, a wonderful International Baccalaureate school, where faculty and staff work together to give them as many new chances for inquiry as possible. We need help mastering the ideas behind why we have day/night, seasons, moon phases and tides.

We need an Earth, sun and moon model that I can let students manipulate and see me use to explain the relationships between these heavenly bodies. The DVDs will show them space in a way that I could never explain.
