My Project
I want to teach my Health Services students the proper techniques for using assistive mobility devices so that they know how to assist patients in using them correctly.
Focusing on safe patient handling and mobility in healthcare is important to avoid injury to the healthcare worker.
With this medical equipment, students will learn how to safely operate a wheelchair, use a gait belt to help patients transfer to and from the wheelchair, assist patients to and from the comode, and adjust the overbed table for patient's comfort. Exposure to these assistive mobility devices will help students better prepare for a career in healthcare and might even be helpful in assisting their own elderly family members. Students can practice utilizing the equipment in a safe, structured environment before being asked to do so with an actual patient.
