My Project
We plan on using the African-American and Muslim artifacts as a vehicle to learn more about African-American / Black folks and their culture (i.e. Civil Rights, Dr. King, etc.) as well as Muslim religion (i.e. Ramadan Mubarak, Eid-al-filtr, etc.). History is a subject that is rich in vocabulary, which can be overwhelming at times for English Learners or even English speakers. Our school is a Title I school, which means nearly 100% of our student population lives a low socio-economic status - so much so, that all students receive free breakfast and lunch. However, what most students don't get are opportunities to experience or learn real meaningful lessons at home or outside of school.
I want to use the African-American and Muslim books, and decorations to get my students excited about understanding they are in a community that is rich in so many world cultures, including those of an African-American and/or Muslim background which will amplify their personal, world-wide perspective.
I understand this may be an expensive donation but know you will be helping bridge cultures of the world, and a deeper understanding of the rich history of Black and/or Muslim folks in our school, community and in the United States at large. I hope to inspire all of my students to learn more about African-American history (i.e. Dr. King, Muhammad Ali, Civil Rights Movement and Act of 1964, etc.) and Muslim traditions (i.e. Halal, Ramadan, Eid, Haram, etc.). Thank you for your consideration. And, Wah Alaykum Assalam to you!
