My students…how do I put into words the young minds entrusted to my charge that will grow and change the world through respect, creativity, energy, excitement, knowledge, problem-solving, and collaborating…I don’t. Instead, I spur them into action by constructing an environment filled with opportunities that challenge them to think and grow beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.
My students come from various cultures and socioeconomic levels, but in my class they are a family of learners, growing through experience, mistakes, trials, determination, perseverance, hard work.
I tell my students to dream big and in return, they challenge me to dream bigger. They do not want to be bystanders in their learning but at the center of the action creating, constructing, and exploring. The focus is not on the learning of today but the education they will need to make a lasting impact on the world of tomorrow.
My students are my heroes. In a world where I can be anything, I am thankful and honored to be their teacher. However, I cannot be the teacher my students deserve, and I aspire to be without help from the outside community. You are the dream makers.
My Project
My students are writers under construction. They begin the school year learning how to hold their pencil, write their name and form letters in the correct formation. By Christmas, they are writing words and sentences. In springtime, they are writing reports complete with a topic sentence, supporting details and a concluding sentence. The development of their writing skills is absolutely AMAZING!
My kindergarten writers need to have their writing celebrated in a special way!
Moving through the writing process can be an enormous challenge for five and six-year-old students. The method of editing, revising and rewriting requires patience and perseverance - by the bucket loads. My students can rise to the challenge when they have the opportunity to select a celebratory piece of holiday, seasonal or fun stationery in which to record their final draft. They are so proud of themselves as they meticulously copy their writing for the last time onto their beautiful paper. It is crazy how something so simple can have such a profound effect on their ability to see the process through from beginning to end.
The donations to this project will provide stationery decorated with pumpkins, trees, shapes, snowflakes, dots, stars, and swirls which will inspire my students to persevere through each step of the writing process. Providing them stationery for recording their final draft allows their hard work to be celebrated and shared.
