Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in high school grades 10 -12 grade in math and English classes in the Los Angeles area. They have learning challenges but work really hard to meet the standards of the curriculum. They have been struggling since the close of school due to the stress of virtual learning, but also have had many losses. Parents, grandparents, and siblings have been sick with COVID or died from it. Some of them contracted COVID themselves and struggled to catch up in school when they were too sick to work.
My Project
At CPHS we try to make sure our students are college and career ready. Part of our plan is to have a college day, where staff and students wear college gear and showcase different colleges students can apply to around the country. Many students though have noticed, there is not enough highlighting of HBCUs.
To change that we want to add HBCU college pendants in multiple rooms, to allow students that opportunity to learn about them and hopefully inspire them to attend these universities and colleges.
This is one of the first steps we plan to do to highlight these historically important institutions of learning.
