This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Dear Donors, I have been purchasing products for my low income students for many years now. One of my favorite products is the Lakeshore Draw & Write Now books for literature and writing. These books have helped my 2nd grade student population to become little prolific writers. Their favorite style of writing is usually expository texts that encompass scientific themes!
They learn to love the joy of writing!
They write expository texts about life science, physical science, and earth science. They write about the experiments that we conduct in class. They write opinion pieces to make informed decisions on topics such as "Should people keep Orcas in aquariums, or shall they be afforded an opportunity to freely explore the massive oceans?" We also use them them to write their narratives about their own situations, for example, stories that find solutions to real world problems such as the unhoused that live all around our school neighborhood.
They are like little sponges always willing to learn more, to ask more questions, and to research answers to apply them to their Draw & Write Now Journals. It is very exciting for them to know that they will be taking these notebooks home at the end of the year to share with their children, their children's children, and so on! They appreciate them and take great responsibility when working with them. These Journals will become a very important keepsake that will provide a glimpse of once upon a time in their amazing life!
