When my students walk into our room in the morning, they are greeted by my smiling face and the quote of the week. The first week of school I also use, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." We always discuss what the quotes mean to us as individuals and then as a team.
My students are young learners that are just waiting to change the world!
I teach second grade and this year I have 25 students.
We have a small school of about 300 students in grades K-5. Although we are fortunate as a Title 1 school with the technology we have, it's the simple things that we find we are in desperate need for such as pencils. Seems like such a little thing!
My Project
One of my favorite August activities when I was a kid was going school supply shopping. The families of my students work so hard to get their children everything they need to be successful. Oftentimes it is the simple school supplies that get overlooked. Students go through many pencils every week. Whether they are writing stories, conducting a science experiment, or learning math - every one of these requires a pencil. They are also 7 and 8 years old. Even though they are responsible for their supplies, they use up the pencils doing their work. I am requesting these pencils so they can spend more time learning and less time finding supplies.
So often we are focused on the big supplies we need.
It is the small things that I really need in my classroom. You will make a huge difference in my classroom because the kids and I won't have to worry about silly things like pencils and a sharpener; we can focus on creating future citizens. Thank you so much for helping support this project!
