Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What would the world be like without accuracy in measurement? I don't even want to go there.
This year I will be teaching 100 fifth graders. They will be rotating into my classroom for science with some math integration. The majority of the students are economically disadvantaged. I worked with many of them during the summer. To keep them on task and engaged, our classroom needs tools to measure.
My students will be able to master various forms of measuring with hands on experiences. This year many students are very hyper and need more than just a lecture on measurement. Taking accurate measurements using the tools will help keep them engaged and interested in their learning.
During our inquiry based lessons and experiments, students will be taking measurements of various types. Students will need timers and stopwatches to accurately measure speed and elapsed time during investigations. Graduated cylinders will be used in finding the volume of irregular shaped objects and to measure liquids for experiments. A class set of rulers is just what my students need to find length and distance during lessons, and investigations. With all these manipulative's, my students will be better equipped to master the skill of measuring.
My students will be able to practice finding volume, length, time, and speed, with hands-on experiences using the items requested.
Your help will make it possible for my students to master the various skills required to measure correctly. Your generosity will provide the tools need to make learning more engaging. What would the world be without accurate measurement? I think pretty scary.
