My Students

My students come from low socioeconomic homes. Many of their parents are forced to work-out-of state to provide for their families while the children are raised solely by one or two elderly grandparents.

While they are with me I focus on their strengths and interests.

I ensure I am creating a warm and loving environment by greeting them with a hug and complimenting them on their shoes, clothing and anything they feel proud of. I know they are faced with many hardships at home with much separation anxiety never knowing when they will see their parents next. But in my classroom is a loving warm environment where they can relax and rely on me to always be there, to believe in them, cheering them on, in their learning endeavors.

My Project

Most of my students are English Language Learners and have difficulty communicating with others, their experiences and ideas. These resources will enable my students to express themselves through artistic creations while learning.

Young students learn best through hands-on experiences.

During our unit on Where We Live, the students will be able to create their homes using the foam cubes or the sticky noodles. This will allow them to express their knowledge about where they live, independent of their linguistic abilities, and they will also learn how to construct a sturdy home. They can also practice making patterns with the colored cubes or noodles and practice their counting skills by counting the number of cubes or noodles it took to build their homes.

That's just one lesson, which will be possible with these resources, can you imagine how many more?
