The impact that pure creativity has on young artists is beyond priceless! I am the art teacher for 230 students ranging from grades 4 through 8 in a small charter school. Our enthusiastic students come from many surrounding towns and cities of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
As we are a charter school, we depend on support from friends, parents, and the community to insure my students realize the marvelous creative potential that they show through their love for art. Support for their supplies is crucial to a successful art program and, of course, to those enthusiastic kids that will directly benefit from them. This trimester's global theme is communication. I believe that in order to best communicate through one's artwork, you must, first, be unafraid to express yourself. The projects in this curriculum will give them a better understanding of who they are as individuals.
My students will be exploring communication through their art projects by, for instance, drawing one another's portraits, as well as their own, among other projects. I will expose them to different mediums, such as printmaking, wax stenciling, and watercolor for most of these projects. I will also help them to discover art's impact in the new "green" world. The supplies that I am requesting will enable these young artists to accomplish important self-discovery.
It is with such great pleasure that I teach these fabulous kids! With kind and generous donations of supplies, it is possible to ensure their successes now, and hopefully, throughout their lives. These supplies will lend to the difference between a mediocre experience and a truly exceptional one.
