Help me give my students blank canvases and acrylic paint to create a masterpiece.
My students are in second grade and attend a Title I school. 99% of the students at our school have at least one parent serving in the military. They are constantly moving from school to school. I do my best to make sure they feel safe, loved, and welcomed. I also have a large population of students with special needs. They work hard and are excited to be at school every day.
Students who come from military families are resilient.
I make the transitions for them as easy as possible, and I welcome them and encourage them to be successful. I am amazed every day by the sacrifices these students and their parents have to make. I feel honored to teach these students. It is the least I can do to help support them.
My students would love to have blank canvases to create their masterpiece. I would like to first teach my students about the famous artist Jackson Pollock. He uses a splatter method to create his portraits. I then would read the book Splatter by Diane Alber.
I want the students to learn that artist can be creative in many different ways.
I am planning on having the students use tape and the splatter method to create their artwork. I would like to use these canvases as a present to their parents during the holiday season. The majority of my students come from military families, and times can be very difficult with deployments. I thought this would be a great way to put a smile on the faces of the parents!
Art is a subject that seems to always be getting cut in the public schools. In my opinion, this is such a shame. I believe this is the time when students creativity really shines. Unfortunately, art supplies can be very expensive, I truly appreciate you considering my project.
