Our school is a Title I school with students from second to sixth grade. My students are from the inner city and are mostly English language learners. Our school is a pilot school. The school's philosophy focuses on leadership skills with an emphasis on critical thinking.
My students are hardworking, resourceful, and self-motivated young people who are eager to be lifelong learners.
The majority of the students who attend our school will be the first in their families to attend college.
This hands-on project allows students to become artists. Art can help build understanding in all subject areas. The materials requested in this project will be put to use immediately.
As students manipulate their designs for their t-shirts, their fine motor skills improve.
The heat press will actual imprint students' design on t-shirts, hats, or flags. When students experiment with materials, they dabble in science. Most importantly perhaps, when students feel good while they are creating, art helps boost self-confidence. The teflon sheets will help with the shirt-making process. The t-shirt will help with any student who may not have a shirt to imprint.
