This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Alma Woodsey Thomas (September 22, 1891 – February 24, 1978) was an African-American artist and Art teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century. Thomas is best known for the "exuberant", colorful, abstract paintings that she created after her retirement from a 35-year career teaching art at Washington's Shaw Junior High School.
As part of Women's History Month, my students have asked if we can find a project that would bring lots of color and life to our classroom.
We recently were displaced and had to move to a new classroom as a result of the Palisades Wildfire. As we continue to decorate and make the new room our own, we look to the majestic, vibrant work of Alma Thomas to lead our creative venture!
