My students never ceased to amaze me. Tammie, Jaren, Daniel and Chelsea love science, arts and crafts, they want to enhance their skills. They also want to continue to expand their pre-vocational abilities by learning to operate different machinery. My students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders and are non-verbal. Hands on activities provides them unlimited opportunities to express their individuality, abilities, creativity and provides sensory integration and stimulation. They are ready for Phase Two of their Artistic Inspiration project.
The project is important to the school and community by providing the students the opportunity to grow and develop in a data based learning environment. Students are encouraged to become productive citizens as they transition to adulthood through student strength perspectives. This project will help support the skills they need to become fully empowered. Art provides opportunities for self- expression, creativity as well as teamwork and collaboration. These skills are needed to be successful whether it be post-secondary education, or the world of work. Accomplishing this project takes teamwork, trust and commitment from all stakeholders.
