As 5th graders, my students do not receive a lot of time for creative art and exploration. Art is a structured class so there is not a lot of "free creativity" where students get to paint or use their imagination to create. One day a week my students have a no specials day which can be used to my discretion. During this time I like to let the students explore their artistic side.
I have found that the students behavior improves during this time because they are allowed to use materials in a non structured, creative way.
This has provided to be therapeutic for some. More and more they are asking for this even in comparison to free time or playing games.
Please help me provide my students with the paint, paper, markers, art cups, and other tools to cultivate their creativity.
