My students were so excited when I showed them the supplies and told them we can paint again! For the past 3 school years I have had to teach Art from a CART. I couldn't teach painting and color mixing the way I wanted to with limited space and supplies on a cart. This year, since I got my Art Room back, my students have made wonderful projects. As soon as I told each class we can paint and learn color mixing they were so happy and could hardly wait to start!\r\n\r\nSo far, Kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade have experimented with color mixing and have used the painting supplies. (Before the end of the school year, first grade and third grade will paint also.) The first thing I noticed is that some of the more \"difficult\" students were focused and engaged in the painting. They were not causing problems in class when they were painting! I even mentioned this to the school counselor and our school case manager. Both said that painting is calming and often used in therapy. \r\n\r\nThe photos I've taken of the paintings include 6 \"problem\" students' Artwork. I am so proud of all of them. They are so proud of themselves, and their creations. Thanks again for all the supplies and paint to make this such a successful year for painting!","fullyFundedDate":1733152150100,"projectUrl":"project/color-mixing-with-tempera-paint-grades-k/8917182/","projectTitle":"Color Mixing with Tempera Paint Grades K-5","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Paskey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9824755"},{"teacherId":3065452,"projectId":8581116,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity toward my classroom. The sensory room has been up and running for just about two weeks. So far, students in each grade have been able to experience this space. Many students with special needs are able to use this as a regular part of their daily schedule. They are learning to regulate emotions and meet other sensory needs. Sometimes kids use the room when they need to calm down, get the wiggles out, explore healthy ways of identifying and expressing emotions, or just to have a quiet, peaceful place to sit and breathe.\r\n\r\nIt's been so rewaring to see and hear the reactions of students as they've experienced the space for the first time. I've heard comments like: \"This room is amazing!\" \"I'd rather spend time in here than go to recess.\" \"I feel so much calmer when I come in here.\" I was able to visit several schools that effectively utilize sensory spaces as a normal part of their school day. I'm hoping to develop our space and its use over the next few months so that it's even better for next school year!\r\n\r\nThe response has been so positive from students, staff members, and visitors.
