Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With standardized test and cuts in the school year due to budget cuts our time to dedicate to the arts has been very limited. I would like to give my students two more opportunities this school year to work on big art projects and express their creativity.

I have the pleasure of being the teacher to 24 smart, enthusiastic 1st grade students.

Students who are excited to learn, and are gaining the necessary skills needed to become life long learners. 100% of my students participate in the free lunch program. They come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My Project

My students have made many academic gains this school year, they have also had memorable events and performances. I would like for them to hold the memories of their 1st grade year, while they express their creative and artistic skills. In order to help them preserve these memories I would like for them to make a 1st grade scrapbook. By making a scrapbook they will not only remember their 1st grade year for years to come, they will get a chance to be artistic and creative. By supplying them with things like colored paper, crayons, gems, glitter glue and other craft materials, they will have a chance to create and express their artistic skills. I would also like a button making machine so that they can make buttons of memorable days. They can make a button once a week. That button will portray their favorite learning activity for that week. They will express that activity by drawing and or making slogans about the subject, providing for a weekly opportunity to be artistic.
