This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic learners who have lots of challenges to overcome. My goal is to create a learning community that highlights their strengths and helps support them to compensate for their weaknesses. Learning to regulate their emotions is critical to addressing their social emotional needs.
Many of our students have experienced trauma during their short lives.
Some of them get very frustrated with tiny mistakes and try to give up. Some have big feelings that get in the way of interacting with others in a safe way. Others may need a minute to gather their thoughts before trying to communicate. Still others learn to express their thoughts and feelings through art and building things.
As our students return to the classroom, we are discovering that they need to work in different ways than in the past. We are also learning that our students may need intentional opportunities to help manage their big feelings.
My Project
My students are learning to express themselves in a variety of ways. When the going gets tough, they get going and they don't stop! They are all making tremendous progress after the pandemic and I want to see it continue.
Art is an amazing way to express big feelings.
These materials will provide the tools they need to get creative! Because we can't share materials, the carts will really help them stay organized and keep their materials safe and sanitized.
The materials will allow them to make and take their projects home and share their learning with their grown ups!
