Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year I ask donors to help me fund materials to teach students how to make different things throughout the year.
Around October, students create calaca, nicho boxes, and barriletes (kites), and draw monarch butterflies for the Day of the Dead exhibition.
In the Spring, I am planning this year to learn how to make friendship bracelets, Mexican mosaic coasters, piñatas...
My goal with these supplies is that I hope it can last one whole year so that students can learn also about culture while making the crafting. My students are very talented because they all belong to different academies and every year I get students from across the academies: visual art, theater, media, dance, and music.
