My Students

My students consist of pre-k artists with varying exceptionalities. My students are part of a rural community in central Florida with limited resources, and 65% of our students are receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Learning through the integration of art is essential to my students' educational and personal growth as lifelong learners.

Art allows them to see the world through many different lenses. Nothing compares to the look a child gets when they have pride in something they have created. I strive to give my students the opportunity to achieve this experience each and every day.

My Project

To meet the needs of my digitally native pre-K students, I must provide them with opportunities to challenge them artistically through technology. All three of my pre-k classes, which include Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) pre-k classes, will benefit from this experience. I would like my students to be able to use apps like Pixie on the iPad to explore illustration design techniques essential to the creative process. Using the iPad in the art room will give the students the ability to digitally create art, just as professional graphic artists, web designers and illustrators do.

My pre-kindergarten students thrive while learning through the arts.

Being digitally native, my students have the knowledge base to maneuver apps with the iPad. Having three iPads in the classroom will allow one table group to be actively engaged in a digital art experience.
