Art Voyagers:Visiting the Past, Present and Future!

My students need a Kiln, a Loom, clay, and Yarn.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Angela S.'s classroom raised $1,107

This project is fully funded

I teach Art Education, grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade including Special Education in an urban public school which is also a high-need community.

The students have asked to do clay projects because they like to build. We do not have a kiln in or school and the children would love the opportunity to create their own bowls, plates, cups, masks and other hand made projects. Our school does not have a loom. When we discuss the Native American culture, the children were excited about the large looms that were used.

The Art room is a link to the past and has the ability to give children not only a greater understanding of different cultures, but also a hands on experience. Although our Art room is small, a small kiln would be large enough to do it's purpose (firing the clay projects). The students will have the opportunity to create more three dimensional projects, as well as have a greater understanding of how they were and still are made. We would also need clay to get us started. Another resource that our children need is a large loom. Seeing a picture of someone using a loom is one thing, however hands on experience is another. Students would be able to link there understanding with this experience. It would helps them gain a greater knowledge of how fabrics are created, and understand how the Hispanic, Native American and other cultures around the world create clothing, rugs and other items. The large loom would be an educational piece they would not forget.

This project will help students have a greater understanding of the past, other cultures and give them an opportunity to have a piece of artwork that they create themselves. With your help, you can make it possible for students to take a voyage to Africa, Italy, Mexico and other countries with the experience of using a kiln and a loom! Perhaps they will become masters of them both. Your help can make a difference.
