Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am teaching math and science to 49 fourth and fifth grade students. In order to make math and science learning fun and engaging, I would like to incorporate art into my instruction.

By incorporating art in math and science, I will not only engage and motivate my students, but I will also foster creativity.

One of the art projects that I have in mind includes symmetrical art where students will use or weave colors on stock paper using different mediums in order to reinforce the concept of symmetry. Another project that I plan to do is a fraction or decimal art piece where students create a design from a hundred grid and show their colors mathematically using fractions and decimals. Furthermore, I would also like students to be able to work in groups to solve problem using different colored markers on contact paper. This pretty display of colors would encourage them to do something that may not normally be considered "fun." Integrating art in math and science will definitely engage students as well as give them a sense of achievement and pride in their work that will help build confidence.
