I am the art teacher at a Northern Ohio Charter School for students who have been diagnosed with ADHD and/or an ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Our school is a special education program founded on the principle that any child can learn given the proper learning environment and tools.
I absolutely love my teaching assignment!
I teach art to 200 young artists at all grade levels (K-12). My students are creative and energetic and truly enjoy learning about and making art.
Over the years, I have purchased enough black lights that I can now light up my classroom with only black light for an entire month each school year. My students absolutely LOVE making art under the black lights. Unfortunately, my school is in a "spending freeze" which means there isn't any art supply budget this year. I am asking for a variety fluorescent art supplies for my students so that we can still have "Black Light Month" this year.
The opportunity to use glowing art supplies in a dark room makes it easier for my students to focus on their assignments.
When your paper is the brightest thing in front of you in a calm, dark room, it is much easier to complete your task. The black light responsive crayons I am asking for will be ideal for my younger artists while older students can use neon paint to create posters!
