My at risk students are 7th and 8th grade highly motivated students with about 80% receiving free or reduced-price lunch. With a budget freeze and a 2018-19 budget deficit, there are no funds to attend professional development.
My students love it when I bring them new techniques or materials to try.
With four days of learning, I should have many new things to share with them!
Art class is a daily opportunity for students to express creativity and create something they are proud of. I believe in providing a top-notch arts education to nurture the budding artist inside.
My Project
As an Art teacher, I am a department of one person. Attending conferences like this keep me invigorated and give me new ideas to take back to share with my students.
The Fall 2018 Michigan Arts Education Association conference offers dozens of sessions on a variety of topics centering on Visual Arts, connecting to Math, Science, Technology, Social Studies, Writing, Reading and more.
Making connections with other Art educators is invaluable to my daily work with my students. In the past, I have learned instructional strategies, organizational tips, and about new media to use in the Art room. Along with this, there are often vendors offering free materials to take back to share with my students.
