I am a currently teaching at a K-8 grade alternative school. Our main goal is to give students a second chance at learning while giving specialize instruction. I teach 150+ inner city youth that come from low-income poverty-stricken homes. Most of these students would not have any formal art education if they were not enrolled in my art class.
In my art classroom, each and every student is special and valued in their own and unique way.
By teaching students visual arts gives them a sense of achievement as well as ownership, I've taken joy in being a part of a special school community where students, families, and teachers work together to give all kids a strong social-emotional and academic foundation. It is important that students are able to work hands-on with supplies that they normally would not use due to their home environment.
This four day convention focuses on various hands-on skills for the art classroom. We will learn how to use sketchbook to encourage students to work through the thinking process. There will be sessions on classroom management. There will be 100’s of vendors and opportunities to try out different materials while creating examples and take always to show the students.
My students will benefit from my hands-on learning opportunities each day.
Students will learn to work in a choice based classroom while using creative thinking strategies to create one of a kind masterpieces. Students will also be able to increase their sketchbook skills and idea crafting each day. During this convention educators are able to sit in on lectures, create in hands-on learning activities or even shop with the vendors. This is the opportunity of a lifetime that will provide the necessary skills I need to increase student growth. My students will directly benefit from from my hands-on knowledge. This opportunity will allow the students to explore using new materials and techniques.
