My Project
I am enrolled in a 10-week metalsmithing course at Fleisher Art Memorial. I am always expanding my art program and learning new techniques to pass on to my students. The materials will be used when learning a variety of techniques for shaping and manipulating metal, including: sawing, filing, soldering, forging, annealing, raising, casting, texturing, stone setting, finishing methods like polishing and patination, and proper use of tools like a jeweler's saw, rolling mill, torch, hammer, and pliers.
Additionally, students will be exposed to professional industry practices used in jewelry and sculpture, which could inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.
Lost wax casting also encourages problem-solving, as students troubleshoot challenges in the mold-making and metal-pouring stages. As they work with different metals, they’ll learn about their properties and uses, enhancing their overall material knowledge.
