Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach 4th grade in a Dual Language ICT Classroom. In an Integrated Co-teaching class (ICT), students with disabilities learn alongside general ed students who don't have learning disabilities or special needs. Because of the pandemic, I am now teaching all students in 4th grade remotely. We have a total of 44 students in 4th grade.

What happens in our virtual classroom every day is determined by our instructional practice.

If you currently walk into our virtual classroom you will experience whole group and small-group instruction, challenging and text-dependent questions that promote engaging and meaningful discussions, more non-fiction close readings, instructional scaffolding, and extensive writing opportunities.

My Project

Participating in art activities can help young children learn about cooperation, collaboration, empathy, and emotional regulation.

Art-related activities are fun for young children and are a good way to encourage creativity and assist with the development of fine motor skills and spatial awareness.

However, new research has shown that being involved in the arts is also beneficial for social and emotional development.

Social and emotional development represents a child’s ability to control their feelings or behaviors, get along with others, build relationships with adults, and recognize and understand the emotions of people around them.

Experiences that involve cooperating, collaborating, following directions, demonstrating self-control, and paying attention all help encourage the growth of these skills, and art activities often incorporate many of those aspects.

Early childhood-appropriate arts include activities like music, song, dance, theater, and visual arts and crafts.

Visual arts and crafts involve activities such as painting, drawing, playing with slime, or using stamps and stickers. Constructing creative projects helps build fine and gross motor skills and allows practice with color while encouraging exploration.

If we get our project funded, our students will be able to express their emotions through art and sharing these experiences within their school community. Students will be able to decorate their masks/totes and wear them proudly.
