Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an eighth-grade math teacher. I started a new volunteer project for my students at my middle school on the Lower East Side. What we do is write poetry and create paintings for children who are stuck and sick in hospitals. The goal is to brighten children's' environment and revitalize their hope.
Right now we need to buy more paint, brushes, and paper because the supply we got from our last donation ran out. We have approximately 100 students who volunteer their time every week to paint, and they vary in age from nine to sixteen years old.
This project is a great experience for my students because we are able to discuss how important it is to help people less fortunate than ourselves. My students are able to reflect on the blessings that they have been given and take time out of their lives to help make another child who is ill feel better.
I feel this project is very special, and we could really use some help. Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal; people like you will re-affirm to my students that there are people out there who care about making the world a better place.
