This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic 7 and 8-year-olds who are excited about learning. They love to read and write and engage in conversation with their peers. They are eager to read both literature and nonfiction and write about what they’ve read. Many of my students began elementary school without foundational reading skills, but they have been working hard to attain grade level standards. Most of my students are second language learners. Reading in the classroom is essential to their continued success!

My Project

My students are creative little people who need an outlet for their ideas and imagination. They are inspired by the world around them and eager to express their thoughts artistically. Due to budget cuts and lack of resources, my school has little to no funds for art supplies. My students receive crayons at the begining of the year, and that is all they're able to use for art projects. Studies have shown that engaging kids in art activities stimulates the brain and produces gains in other academic subjects. These art supplies would enable my students to develop their artistic skills and improve their overall academic achievement.
