My Students

My students consist of a diverse group of children with varying special needs.
They each require some extra attention to reach their potential. My students are exceptional learners who sometimes need accommodations to be successful. Most of them are learning functional and life skills such as toileting, social skills, following simple directions, and how to manage outbursts and sensory needs.
These children are capable of so much more than even I realize, and they continue to surprise me with their abilities. They bring so much joy to our school.
My Project
My students sometimes struggle with behavior throughout the school day. Trying to regulate sensory needs while also trying to learn academics and social skills can be difficult and exhausting! Art is a good, healthy way for students to express themselves and decompress in the classroom. We currently receive music classes weekly, but not art classes. I try to fit in guided and free crafts in our day whenever I have the opportunity. I think arts and crafts encourage creativity and they can be really therapeutic! I would love to get some basic art supplies for my classroom, to continue to encourage my students to be creative and to have art time when we are able. Construction paper, paint, glitter, crayons, Velcro dots, and colored paper and card stock will allow us to continue to make art in the classroom, and give my students the freedom to be creative, as well as supplies for me to hang up their art and display it in the classroom!
