I teach at a wonderful middle school that has been recognized four times as a "school to watch." This is very remarkable since we live in a high-poverty area, and many of our students have difficulty finding support for musical enrichment outside of our classroom.
My students thrive in a student-centered learning environment where they can discover and learn by using our classroom tools and technology.
We have very little room in our classroom budget for anything but basic music needs and instrument repairs.
My Project
We have very hands-on music classrooms that complete student-focused learning projects. This year we will be adding 5th grade to our middle school. This means that we will be adding new 5th grade music classes to our curriculum. This new curriculum with focus on STEAM elements to imagine new instruments and re-examine how music happens.
We need some basic art supplies in order to give our new classes and students all of the tools that they need to create with music!
By having construction paper, markers, glue, fine tipped pens and notebooks, we can plan and implement the creation of a hands-on STEAM curriculum in our music classrooms.
