My Students
My students are unique, ambitious and full of creativity! In my classroom I currently have 7 children all who have a diagnosis of Autism. They absolutely love hands-on learning, active play and working together to complete various tasks. They love to come to school each day in order to learn, play and work on how to positively interact and socialize with their classmates.
My students benefit from consistency and the use of extremely engaging activities.
Our school is located in the inner city part of Philadelphia in an impoverished neighborhood where a lot of children don’t have basic necessities and therefore lack the skills to be successful in today’s world. As a teacher, I strive to fill this gap and give children experiences that they may not have had otherwise
Children in my classroom absolutely love learning, and each learns at their own pace and level. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies including one on one work, group work, sensory adaptations including alternative seating, various adaptive tools, communication devices and weighted classroom items in order to ensure all students’ needs are being met.
My Project
All of my students are extremely creative and express themselves through the use of art. Every year we go through a ton of supplies while completing various classroom projects.
Being in an autistic support classroom, we complete a lot of hands on activities that require art supplies.
We will use scissors and glue in order to complete work in our independent work centers including task boxes. Other supplies such as glitter and tissue paper will help my students create projects to stimulate their senses. My students also enjoy choosing art for their earned activities and like to draw best with crayons on construction paper.
