Do you remember how much you liked art when you were a four year old? Art is a wonderful way for my students to express their creativity. With these supplies, they will be able to express themselves. My students will learn about primary colors and the wonderful science of color theory.
I teach 18 four-year-olds, and they have the most inspiring little faces you'll ever see.
One of the many benefits of teaching in Manhattan is that our students are extremely diverse. They all come in with different types of life experiences, but as soon as they walk through the classroom door, they all need the same opportunities to develop artistic skills.
My Project
Unfortunately, we don't even have an art teacher/room in our school. I'm trying to turn my classroom into a partial art room. I have requested play-dough stamps, dot dot markers, glitter glue and other art materials. I have also requested multicultural wood sticks so my students can learn about different color tones of our skin. These materials will be used to teach my students about how children come with different skin tones. I will also use the dot dot markers to teach students about mixing colors, and how colors blend together to form new colors.
I am shocked by the amount of academic work my four-year-olds were expected to comprehend.
Art is one of very few remaining subjects that my students can still fully enjoy with no boundaries.
