Art Supplies and Wobble Chairs

My students need art supplies, math materials, puzzles, and wobble chairs to accommodate their learning needs.

My Students

Our Title 1 school is located in a very diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn. My students are 5 years old. They are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch. Many of my kindergarteners are growing up in low-income homes and do not have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic growth. Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated and love coming to school.

The spectrum of developmental levels in kindergarten is vast, and I am working hard to meet the needs of all my students.

My Project

Every afternoon my students engage in a play-based, child-directed learning. They are able to choose which area of the classroom they want to explore and take their learning into their own hands. Our art center is very popular. My students love making art. They draw, color, make puppets, and collages. Art engages their senses in an open-ended exploration and develops cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skills.

With 25 eager artists in my classroom, we quickly run out of basic art supplies.

We would like ample supplies of construction paper, card stock, beads, craft sticks and markers.

Some of my students are unable to maintain focus in class due to a need to move. I would like to ask for special wobble chairs which allow movement without tipping over. The wobble chairs will help my students develop core strength, balance and focus.
