Help! My K - 8 students come in all sizes and the heavy plastic chairs are a hazard for the little ones. They can't lift them for stacking on the tables. We tried plastic stools but they don't survive the middle school sized kids! My students need a safe a sturdy stool for creating art.
My students come to our school from all over the world, most from refugee camps in Asia and Africa where many have experienced extreme violence.
Our school has over 60 countries and 30 native languages. We have more than 1000 students K - 8 and one art classroom to serve all. Our school is their safe place for learning English and adapting to life in the United States. Art class offers the students an opportunity to express what they cannot yet say in words. We have an award winning visual art program. The needs of our population are many and our funds are limited.
My Project
Many of our students have little or no experience with chairs when they come from their native countries. My students have fallen, bruised fingers and had feet stuck in the heavy old plastic classroom chairs. The stools will give all the students a safe way to sit and move around as they create art.
Safe seating is a basic need in the classroom.
In a busy art room that serves over 1000 students that range in age form 5 - 14 years old it is a must. Our students are struggling with adapting to a new country and new language and overcoming the violence in their past. Many have never been in a school, worn shoes or sat on a chair. This project will help thousands of students over the years with safe seating for self-expression.
