My school is very diverse in that we have many English Language Learners which make up almost half the population of our school. Also, we are an all-kindergarten school made up of approximately 500 5 and 6-year-olds! That's a lot of little bodies that can be influenced in a positive way!
I teach 36 enthusiastic, eager, and energetic kindergartners at a Title I school.
Our school is in a very low socioeconomic community. Because we are in a high poverty community, all students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch through the community eligibility program. Most of my students have not had the opportunity to attend pre-k or have significant learning experiences in their homes.
My Project
My students have many opportunities throughout the day to collaborate with other students, as I feel that the social interaction as well as the "teamwork" approach gives them new experiences and allows them to learn to work well with others. Empowering students through hands-on discovery is so important, especially for young children. We have an art center where students make alphabet crafts and the opportunity for "free art" to explore their creativity. The paper I am requesting will allow me to fill our art center with attractive materials to make learning fun.
The alphabet games I am requesting, such as the alphabet acorns and alphabet popsicles, will be perfect for my students' fine motor skill development and brain building.
The wooden alphabet builders will increase phonemic awareness in our classroom. The double-sided counters will be great additions to our STEM and fine motor centers. With your help, I would be able to give my students literacy, math, and science learning opportunities through critical and creative thinking.
