My students need Osomo to create art and begin to code!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Musician Brandt Paul said: "Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon." As a dedicated educator that is precisely what I aim to do. Our school is in a low-income area and it is my privilege to teach all these children. From high performing students, special needs students, homeless students and bilingual students; each and every one of them is imaginative and reach for the stars. There is only one thing that brings them down too often.
These children are told too after the word "can't"
That word does not exist in my room. There is always another way to do something but never a "can't". At home, by the community and even educators use this word which immediately puts an end to the greatness that could be. In a classroom, nothing should limit a child from being the best they can be, specifically in an art room. A child should be able to imagine and create infinitely.
Too often art gets cut out of the classroom. Especially in low performing schools. Testing takes over in the classroom and the projects and creativity get pushed aside. SO we are trying something new this year! Our art room will act as a trial STEAM room. STEAM stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, ART and Mathematics.
With you help we can get this amazing program that incorporates Art and Technology.
These interactive coding pieces and art based problem solving puzzles will be the perfect addition to our classroom. I plan to begin using this as part of my center rotation and as an intervention for students struggling in Math and Science. My goal is to use this product to increase students' performance in Math and Science with 80% accuracy. Osomo will be a huge advantage and great teaching tool for the years to come!
