My students need markers, stickers, folders, stamps, rollers, trays, pots, tape, wiggle eyes, paint caddies, and coins to create amazing projects for their art portfolio.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A picture is worth a thousand words in first grade! Children learn how to read by looking at the picture to decode words. My students also need to draw pictures to understand the meaning of words. We need art materials to learn how to read and write in a fun, creative way.
Our wonderful school is located in sunny, Southern California.
My first grade students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. Our school has won many prestigious awards. We are a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence. Funding extra projects is difficult because we do not receive money from a Title I program.
My Project
The school provides crayons which we use daily. However, students enjoy using scented markers instead of crayons to draw pictures and write words which help them learn how to read. Sometimes we like to paint, but there is no sink in my room ( I have to go next door to get water). I could really use the no-spill water pots and craft trays to let students paint pictures and words. My room also has several magnetic boards. The magnetic clips and tape I am requesting would make it easier for me to display art projects. From my experience, wiggle eyes are needed for many art projects in first grade. I use them weekly. The design rollers would be used as an incentive in the writing center when students get to publish their stories. The rollers would make an attractive border to display their masterpieces.
The art supplies I am requesting will motivate my students to read and write in first grade.
Art projects are fun to do, especially if you get to use paints, rollers, stickers, and scented markers instead of boring crayons. My art projects always correspond to a reading or writing assignment. Let's get these kids excited about reading and writing through wonderful art projects.
Thank you for your consideration.
