The students I'm privileged to work with come from diverse backgrounds, both ethnically and social-economically, including 37% Hispanic, 25% Asian, and 25% White. Almost 30% of our students come from low-income families, and 11% are English Language Learners.
Our students deserve the experience of showing off their artwork in an art show, helping them build collaboration skills and self esteem.
Many of these students need to build confidence in life and academic skills, so they can gain self-motivation to overcome conflict. Our students who have been traditionally marginalized are in need of more opportunity in the arts, including the exposure of their incredible artwork!
This intermediate school has 7th and 8th graders, and I will have at least 350 of the 800 students each year in my art classes, as well as an addition 30 students each week who choose to come for art club.
My Project
Our first art show needs some awesome display panels! With these foam boards, we can build some beautiful backdrops to display our students artwork for next year's first annual art show at our school. There foam boards will be covered with black paper, secured with gaffer tape, and assembled together and stored for all future art shows.
This art show will be a collaboration with other electives teachers to include design and engineering projects, jazz performances and leadership student involvement.
The panels and supporting materials will allow students and families to view artwork in a professional and significant way. Please consider supporting our project so we can have our first art show!
