My students need all these special art materials because they have special need. They need canvases, paint, specialized brushes, rollers, and markers.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. ANASA's classroom raised $741
This project is fully funded
Children who are not able to read or write because of their disabilities are able to make art, and feel like they have achieved great goals! I am an art teacher in a special needs school have filled the school's hallways with the artwork of all my students work with special needs children who have mild to severe cognative, and physical disabilities.
Our school has not had an art program for over ten years. I was hired as a full time art teacher in 2007. I have had to start the art program from scratch, with very limited supplies and budget. I have spent over seven hundred dollars from my own pocket thus far. I deal with a wide range of disabilities, therefore I need to adapt the tools, materials, and projects to meet all the various needs of my students. I teach 14 different classes, materials go very quickly.
Sometimes the children may waste some materials without wanting to, because they just can't help it. I deal with children with autism, mental retardation, MS, CP, and many other conditions.
A lot of these children are not able to read or write, but they are able to create great works of art. They are able to express themselves through their artwork even if they are not able to speak. Since I created this program, I have noticed more self confidence in my students, I have seen more smiles on their faces. We have put on art exhibits, and art shows in our school. We have even been on the cover of our local newspaper twice because of the art program. We had a lunar New Year Parade in which all my students contributed in the making of a 20 foot dragon, which was carried by five students and wound up on the cover of the local newspaper. We also created shamrocks, a pot of gold and a rainbow banner (all made by our students)for St. Patrick's Day. It was once again photographed on the cover of the local paper. Our next parade will be "Cinco de Mayo"
Please help us get art materials so that we may continue our wonderful art projects, and parades. I have my students entered in three different art contest this year. We can not do it without the art materials, they are the foundation of the art program here at our special needs school. Please help us to enrich the lives of these very special children. Thank You.
