This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my General Art and Crafts and Ceramics classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.
My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.
Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!
My Project
Students in my General Art 1 and 2 classes create many wonderful works of art. Inside our new classroom the walls are white and bare. Hanging work on walls requires the use of tape or command strips which do not always hold up for long periods of time.
Having cork boards added to the walls in my classroom will allow me to securely display student work.
This will also allow for students to view their work and the work of their peers on the regular. In addition, we could use the displayed art for when we do class critiques or looking for specific elements of art. In sum, having cork boards on my classroom walls will be an amazing addition to my class.
