My Students
Our school is a small, caring environment for students in grades K4-5th. The student population is diverse and high-need, and 80% of students qualify for either free or reduced lunch. As such, students' families do not have excess funds for special projects, school fees or field trip fees.
Students in second grade are exceptional learners in Art Class this year!
They approach projects with curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. Students have expressed great interest in visiting the art museum (the majority have never been there!) and in seeing artwork in person. They are beginning a unit on "Play" in artwork, and the way artists use this concept to create.
My Project
Second-grade students will view and discuss the innovative and interactive artwork of Spanish artist and designer, Jaime Hayon. Students will learn about other artists who use "play" in their work and will get to play inside actual artwork designed by Hayon in this special exhibit.
A trip to this particular exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum will allow students to connect their learning from the art classroom to the work of a professional, living artist.
Play is an important part of children's lives, and a valuable tool for learning and this trip would place their art classroom learning in a larger context.
