My Students

I teach Visual Arts to Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade at a public school in Brooklyn, NY. A typical day in my classroom consists of a group of enthusiastic and eager 6 to 8-year-olds exploring various concepts and ideas through various art materials. Every day, my students inspire me to become a better art educator. They tackle each art project with excitement and dedication.

My students are not only diverse in age, but they come from many different backgrounds and speak several different languages.

A majority of my students are English Language Learners. The arts offer all of my students a venue for self-expression. For my English Language Learners, this is especially important. Many struggle on a daily basis trying to communicate and connect with their teachers and their peers.

My Project

This school year I started a K-2 art club for my elementary students. This is our first after-school art club that my school has available for our youngest students. It has been a blessing working with selected students after-school on art projects to beautify our small annex space. I wanted to give my students an opportunity to help beautify their school and work on projects that they would not be able to do during the school day.

We are currently in need of specific art materials to help us carry out art projects with our after-school students.

Our K-2 students expressed interest in learning how to Tie-Dye so we are in need of tote bags and pencil cases that students can use to Tie-Dye. We are also hoping to create a painted rock installation in our school garden. The rock painting book will help to inspire ideas for my students to create their rocks and the paint pens will help students to design their rocks.

We are also working on painting murals in our school hallway. The ice cube trays will help us to store the paint and mix colors needed to complete our murals. The lids on the ice cube trays will help us to save the paint that we mixed for the following week. The ink will help us to print visuals for our students to help inspire ideas for projects that we work on in art club.

Please help us to purchase materials for our students so we can keep our art club up and running! Seeing the excitement and enjoyment our students have when they arrive in the art club has been a complete joy! We want to continue to foster our student's love for the arts and for art-making!
